PLANS FAVOR INDEPENDENT REVIEW Congres should take notice of the successe that states have had in resolving health care disputes from using independent medical review organizations (IRO), and should encourage their use nationally a research from the American Association of Health Plans says. Independent medical review, which is required in 39 states plus the District of Columbia, has earned mainly favorable reviews from health plans, which say that of the like kind reviews increase consumer satisfaction, the application of mind says. IRO requirements and processs differ from state to state and would ne to be standardized if as it was a system were to be implemented nationwide. "Consumer doctors, and employer agree that independent medical review should form the basis for a patient protection bill that gives consumer the accountability they inquire for and deserve," says AAHP President and Chief Executive Officer Karenr Ignagni. AAHP approves that these reviews be done by the agency of physicians, as is the case for mostly IROs.
